How to Plan a Spring Wedding in Hampton Roads | Business

Today I'm excited to introduce my dear friend Holly of Just Dandy Events. She is a talented wedding planner in our area and is kindly bringing her expertise on planning a spring wedding in Hampton Roads to my blog. Read on to find out how to plan the perfect wedding for one of my favorite seasons!

Oh Virginia. I just love our sweet state. It has so much to offer, especially when it comes to weddings. And personally, my favorite season for a Virginia wedding is spring. The air has finally started to lose its chill and it’s not yet humid.  All the flowers are blooming and the colors are just incredible.  It’s the perfect balance between the harsh winter and the insanely hot summer.

Venues
Virginia is the home of so many gorgeous venues to host one of the happiest days of your life.  It’s so important to choose a venue that speaks to the style of wedding you’re hoping for and to really take advantage of everything your venue has to offer. If you’re planning a spring wedding, look for a venue that has a beautiful outdoor space for you to showcase.  This will save you so much time and money on decorations.

Norfolk Botanical Gardens
Norfolk Botanical Gardens is 155 acres of stunning landscape and the absolute perfect backdrop for a spring wedding. The flowers are so gorgeous during the spring months and the staff is just incredible. It's also super convenient to Norfolk International Airport, which will make travel a breeze for your guests!

The Planter’s Club of Suffolk
Hidden in the heart of Suffolk, the Planter’s Club is located right on the beautiful Nansemond River. It’s the perfect setting for your wedding if you want that outdoor feel with the convenience and security of an indoor reception. The building has so much character and tons of natural light, giving your guests uninterrupted views of the water. It also has a large & fully functioning kitchen for your caterer!

Backyard Wedding
My all-time favorite kind of wedding is a backyard wedding, especially during the beautiful spring months. There’s something so personal & special about hosting a hundred of your favorite people under a tent at a loved one’s home. A backyard wedding definitely takes a bit more finesse when it comes to planning logistics.  But the incredibly intimate evening will be so worth all the extra work.

Whatever venue you choose for your spring wedding, be sure to secure a rain plan. Virginia is beautiful in the spring, but the weather is also a little bit unpredictable. You should work with your venue and coordinator to reserve a tent so that you can still enjoy the beautiful scenery while keeping all your guests dry while they dance the night away in your honor.

Style
One of my absolute favorite things about spring is the incredible color palette created by all our surroundings. It really makes creating a style for your wedding so effortless and fun! If you’re planning a spring wedding, play up the pastels and patterns. Your bridesmaids’ dresses don’t have to be a solid color….why not go with a floral pattern or even a fun seersucker? The warmer days of spring even mean you can try a shorter hem length on your wedding gown!

In lieu of full centerpiece arrangements, you could choose a grouping of bud vases with tulips or daisies. Large floral wreaths are the perfect addition to venue doors or even the backs of your chairs!

Food
By the time spring rolls around, I’m always tired of comfort foods and ready to move on to fresh and colorful meals. Spring is a great time to go for chilled soups and champagne cocktails instead of the warm dips and spiced drinks of the fall and winter seasons.  A colorful spring salad would make the perfect appetizer followed by entrees featuring fresh herbs and veggies.

I hope you’ll try to see past the April Showers mentality of the spring season and see it as a perfect opportunity to host a beautiful, colorful, and fun wedding of your dreams!
